My first day on the job, Cliff came up and introduced himself to me....he later told me that the first time he saw me he knew he would someday marry me. We began casually chatting and after a few weeks of persistent invitations we want on our first official date to Bandera in Scottsdale.

Fast forward 2 1/2 years later we were living in Dallas, Tx so that Cliff was able to take a General Manager position at a golf club there. We had made plans to take a trip with our best friends to Las Vegas and go to their house in Lake Havasu. Our first night in Vegas, we all went out to a nice steak dinner at Del Frisco's. The guys decided to order some champagne and wine to celebrate us all being together (I still didn't have a clue, as we were just celebrating being all together for the first time in over a year). Our server came out with a round of champagne in glasses, and Cliff leaned over to me and said, "I think there's something in your glass." Without even looking I started telling the server I needed a new glass and hanging it back to her, and Cliff says, "No, look in your glass", and there was my gorgeous engagement ring inside of it as our server handed us a spoon to get it out as he dropped to one knee. It was beyond magical, and a complete surprise, he did awesome!!!

Were you happy with the venue?:
We knew when we decided on Grayhawk that the only place we would want our ceremony to be was in front of the lake overlooking the 18th green and gorgeous McDowell mountains and Arizona scenery in the background. It was perfect! The food was incredible and even heard from some of our guests it was the best food they’d ever had at a wedding

Describe your wedding details:
As we began wedding planning we knew we would have a longer engagement so we could look at all of our options. We considered a variety of destinations, but going back to Arizona, where I'm from, and Grayhawk, where we first met just always made the most sense and we knew it would be the perfect place. The date was also important to us, as we know how hot it can get in AZ, and keeping in mind our guests who would be traveling, we decided on March, since the weather is usually perfect and there are so many fun things going on around town like Spring Training for those who wanted to make their trip into a mini-vacay. Once we had our date and venue, Cliff let me do most of the planning after that. I knew I wanted a classic and elegant look to our wedding and decided on dove grey and blush pink as our colors. Even though I knew I wanted to have a beautiful and classic look to our wedding, more importantly I wanted to make sure it was a blast for all of our guests with great music, amazing food and an open bar. Planning our wedding while living in another state was a bit challenging at times, but luckily I was able to get some great referrals from friends and was able to travel back to AZ every few months to meet with our vendors. With the added help of my mom and amazing Maid of Honor, Amanda, everything started to come together very seamlessly.

I loved the idea of adding in the "golf theme" to different parts of our wedding, but didn't want it to seem too much like a Pinterest board. We took a fun "Save the Date" photo on a golf course, and instead of table numbers, we named each table after a famous golf course, like Pebble Beach and Augusta National Golf Club. We also gave koozies as our wedding gift with a card saying, "Fore your friendship and love". We used an amazing design artist in Dallas who did all of our printing, from the Save the Dates, invitations, menus, seating chart, table names, gift thank you notes and guest name cards. We knew when we decided on Grayhawk that the only place we would want our ceremony to be was in front of the lake overlooking the 18th green and gorgeous McDowell mountains and Arizona scenery in the background.

We kept the ceremony pretty short, as we wanted to spend time with our friends and family and allow our guests to enjoy the perfect patio weather. Outside we had petals down the aisle and flowers on aisle chairs along with linens and small centerpieces for the cocktail hour. With our beautiful backdrop, and natural flowers and greenery outside we didn't need much more outside and were able to do beautiful high and low centerpieces on our reception tables. The linens and chairs helped make the space even more stunning. I also found a few fun signs on Etsy that I put into frames to add to the space and include our hashtag when people posted pictures. We decided we didn't want a head table so that our bridal party could sit with their spouses and significant others. We had a beautiful seating chart made, and opted for a seated 3 course meal, where guests had indicated on their RSVP if they wanted fish or steak, with tableside wine service so everyone could relax and have fun. It was perfect! The food was incredible and even heard from some of our guests it was the best food they'd ever had at a wedding, bonus!! After dinner and our delicious red velvet wedding cake, it was game on for the real party to start with our DJ playing awesome music to dance the night away, while enjoying drinks and our photo booth.

To keep our guests informed and up to date leading up to the big weekend, I set up a wedding website. It was a really fun way to get information to our guests, share funny stories about our "Starting Line-Up"/Bridal Party and let our guests know about our special 9 hole golf tournament we hosted the Thursday before the wedding on the Talon Course at Grayhawk, that we named "Last Swing Before the Ring". Many of our guests are golfers and some previously worked at Grayhawk, so it was the perfect way to have some fun and relax with our friends and family before the big day.

What piece of advice would you give other brides planning their big day?:
I'm a pretty easy going person, so making sure the day of was stress free, I made sure to have a timeline for the bridal party for hair/makeup and pictures. Everyone knew about it in advance too and we planned an extra 30 min cushion in case we were running late which can always happen. It really helped make it the best day ever from start to finish.

The best part was marrying my best friend and starting our next chapter in life together, and having our friends and family there to celebrate was the icing on the cake!

<?php if (file_exists($DOCUMENT_ROOT."/includes/footer-weddings.php")) { include_once($DOCUMENT_ROOT."/includes/footer-weddings.php"); } else { header("location: /error.php"); } ?>
