His sister-in-law, Maria, was my supervisor at work. I had taken her maternity pictures for her and went to her baby shower to take more pictures. Abel was the only person that did NOT go to the baby shower. As he was looking thru pictures he realized that I was only in one particular group shot with other coworkers. He asked Maria what my story was and told her that he wanted to date me! Maria told him that I had just gotten out of a relationship a few months back and was not interested in dating, which was valid, but that he would have to find his own way to get my number. And this is where Facebook comes in the picture. I was on a girls' trip in California when this handsome man messaged me. He told me he was interested in asking me on a date (and I had never been on a real date before), so we scheduled one a couple days after I got home from California. We went to dinner and a movie, had great conversations and laughed together, and we have been inseparable since!

We dated for a little over a year when Abel proposed. We talked about marriage in the future and I knew that Abel was itching to propose but I had no idea when, where or how he was planning to do it. We planned to go to Tempe Beach Park for 4th of July weeks before the event, which is not like us, we usually go out on a "spur of the moment". He was acting sort of strange while we were walking around the park. He was very specific about times and when we had to be back at the dock to be on the paddle boat (that he had purchased and planned as a little surprise). We paddled out at sunset and ate our ice cream while we waited for a good hour before the fireworks began. I kept telling Abel that I wanted to be really close to the bridge so that we would be right under the fireworks. I had never seen them this close before! He kept saying that it would be too loud and there were too many people so it would be better if we paddled out away from the bridge. I think he wanted me to actually hear him propose! The show ended up to be about 30 minutes late and I could feel Abel's hands sweating. We both scooted on one side of the boat to where we were tipping just a little bit. Abel's arm was around me and he kissed my forehead and said "Shawntell, I love you so much." I told him I loved him too and continued to wait for the fireworks. He took my hands and told me that I have taught him so much in only a year, that he feels closer to God and he loves me with all his heart. I said, "Aww, babe. I love you too! Now, let's watch the fireworks!" He laughed a little, scooted off the bench of the boat and got down on one knee. I felt our boat wobble back and forth. I asked, "What are you doing?" He said all of these really sweet things that I could not even comprehend because all I could hear my heart beating out of my chest. All I heard was, "Shawntell Rae Staude, will you marry me?" At that same time, fireworks went off in the background. It was literally like something off of a movie! I grabbed him and gave him the biggest hug and a kiss and he said, "Soo...is that a yes?" I thought I said yes...but I guess I was literally speechless.

Were you happy with the venue?:
VERY! The girls were extremely helpful and were readily available to answer any and all of my questions & calls. It almost felt as if the staff was part of my family at the reception. We spent lots of time getting to know each other throughout the year and I enjoyed the fact that they were such a big part of the wedding as well. My family and friends were very impressed with the level of professionalism that the staff held throughout the entire day!

Describe the theme or color scheme of your wedding, and what you chose for your table setting at the reception:
I was not sure what I wanted our colors to be at first. I knew that I loved the pinks, blushes and coral colors, with different shades of grays, taupes and beiges. But that was a lot and I was not sure if it all matched and went together. But we did it. We went out on a limb and did all of our bridesmaids in different shades of pinks, our groomsmen in gray, and our centerpieces were various colors of pinks, corals, some even purple! Everything turned out magical. I wanted a very romantic feel and our centerpieces did just that! We mix matched all the flowers that included both tall and short vases. Each table was labeled by a word that expressed love and the definition of the the word (example: loyalty, compassion, respect, encourage, adore, etc). That was one of my favorite details!!!

What piece of advice would you give other brides planning their big day?
Choose love. That is the reason for the day! Choose to surround yourself with people who love you and your husband. Choose bridesmaids and groomsmen who love to dance. Choose to wear shoes that you love (and that are comfortable). Most importantly, choose to love the details that turn out imperfect. Because it is what it is. You will only remember what matters most and the things you choose to remember.

Also, take moments to yourself. Let everything soak in and don't let precious moments slip away. The greatest advice I was given for my wedding is to count to three. When lacing your dress, count to three. When praying with your girls, count to three. Before you walk down the aisle, count to three. At the alter, count to three. During dinner (don't forget to eat!), look around and know that you are surrounded by love. Count to three. First dance, count to five! That went too fast for me. Every moment!!! Count, breath and remember.

With your guests, thank them for sharing this day and let them know they are your favorite people in the world!

<?php if (file_exists($DOCUMENT_ROOT."/includes/footer-weddings.php")) { include_once($DOCUMENT_ROOT."/includes/footer-weddings.php"); } else { header("location: /error.php"); } ?>
