We are trying to plan something for this summer and are shooting for an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica!

How did you two meet or how did he propose? We were friends for 3 years or so before we began dating in 2010. He proposed at my Aunt’s wedding in Cancun, Mexico. Everyone planned it so when she threw the bouquet I would catch it. We were right on the beach so the wind took blew the bouquet out of reach twice before I was able to catch it. When I caught it everyone started screaming and I turn around and Brandon is down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I don’t think I’ve ever been as surprised as I was that night.

Were you happy with the venue? Yes! I loved everything about Blackstone Country Club! Emily Dille, the coordinator was so friendly and always a phone call or email away if I needed anything at all. Their packages made it really easy because so much was included and everything could be customized for us. I really wanted a “naked” cake (without frosting and added fresh fruit) and even though their pastry chef had never done one before she was super willing to try and it turned out amazing! I went with their preferred vendors for just about everything so there were no hiccups or anything I had to worry about on that end.

Describe the theme or color scheme of your wedding, and what you chose for your table setting at the reception: I think the best way to describe the overall theme of the wedding, or at least what I was trying to go for when planning it, was a “Rustic Elegance”. I grew up around horses and love western and rustic things so I wanted to include that in the wedding. But at the same time I had always loved the idea of having a really pretty elegant wedding, so I tried to bring those two together. Our colors were dark plum purple, white, and black. I didn’t want to go too overboard with colors because the venue was already so pretty there wasn’t a need to go crazy with color decorations. I just wanted a little pop of purple color here and there. Brandon loves woodworking so I knew that I wanted to bring that into the wedding so he built the centerpieces for the tables and the wine box for the ceremony. Our table settings were the standard settings that Blackstone uses with a purple napkin.

What piece of advice would you give other brides planning their big day? The best piece of advice I could probably give would be to just enjoy the process as much as possible and not try to do too much and stress yourself out about it. I did have my moments, weddings are stressful, but I always had Brandon telling me that “Our wedding’s for us, not anyone else.” And sometimes we can lose sight of that with all the planning and making sure family and friends are being taken care of. At the end of the day, your wedding’s for you and your soon to be husband, not your family or his family, so make sure you do what makes you happy first and everything else will work out.

** This wedding was even more special for my family especially because just a few weeks after Brandon purposed (May 25th, 2012), my brother Brad stepped on an IED in Afghanistan and lost both of his legs (June 13th, 2012). We went form a super exciting time starting to plan a wedding, to thinking my brother wasn’t going to make it. Those few months after he was hurt were spent in a naval hospital in San Diego praying Brad would survive 11 surgeries and an infection. They were the hardest months of our lives. When we started planning this wedding it started to feel like a new beginning, not just for Brandon and me, but for my family as well. So being able to dance with my brother at my wedding meant more to me than I think anyone can realize.

Tell us about your photographer. Why did you choose this photographer? Were you happy with the whole experience? My photographer was Tara Keator at Lindenleaf photography! I had no idea where to start when looking for someone to do the pictures at the wedding so I decided to check out the preferred vendor list that Blackstone offers. She was the first one I looked up and I fell in love with her photos! After contacting her and talking to her about what I needed that didn't really fit in with her packages she immediately worked with me to insure that I got everything I wanted. She was so friendly and flexible and always got back to me through email quickly if I had and questions or concerns. The day of she was super great! I'm pretty laid back and the last thing I wanted to do was stress on the big day and she was right there with me! We were a little rushed for time taking pictures but she was great and packed a lot of pictures into a short time span before the ceremony. Tara was able to get some great pictures of the reception and cocktail hour and it felt like she must have been 100 places at once with all the picture she was able to get. It also helped that there was a second photographer but Tara was always the one taking charge and making sure to get the best shots! Overall she was so great and I couldn't be happier that we chose to for the wedding. Tara and Lindenleaf will definitely be our main photographer for any and all of our future life events and milestones!

<? if (file_exists($DOCUMENT_ROOT."/includes/footer-weddings.php")) { include_once($DOCUMENT_ROOT."/includes/footer-weddings.php"); } else { header("location: /error.php"); } ?>
