I was teaching at the time, and he utilized the help of my friends and co-workers to plan for the days off, make sub-plans for my class, pack my bags, and arrange for a babysitter for my daughter. His plan was that he was "dropping me off at work" in the morning because he needed the car, but when we got there, he surprised me by telling me I didn't have to go to work that day, and that we were going to Vegas! He had rented a beautiful suit at the Mandalay Bay, and made reservations to take me to see Zumainty, because I am a huge Cirque fan. After the show, he suggested taking a walk to see the fountains at the Bellagio. When we got to the fountains, he got down on his knee and popped the question! Of course, I said yes!

Were you happy with the venue?: We got married at Aldea, and I loved the venue. I had a vision of an outdoor ceremony and reception. Aldea has an absolutely lovely outdoor space, with interesting architecture, lots of foliage, and an eclectic feel that can accommodate about any theme. They had never utilized their outdoor space in the way I envisioned it, but the staff understood my vision, and everyone worked with me to help me create the wedding of my dreams. Their team is very creative and they have an obvious passion for helping couples create their perfect day.

Describe the theme or color scheme of your wedding, and what you chose for your table setting at the reception: My theme was light, romantic, vintage-ish, eclectic, crafty. The decorations consisted of birdcages and other iron pieces, clocks, vintage luggage, birds, antique-feeling items, and floral accents. The colors were soft shades of coral and pinks. Nothing was uniform; everything was a mix of colors and styles, and it all came together beautifully. My center pieces were mixed; some tables had antique-looking candelabras with pink candles, placed atop vintage-esque face clocks. Other tables had branchy trees in vases, with little paper birds hanging from them. As favors, each place setting had origami boxes filled with candy, hand made from various (reproduced) antique floral printed paper.

What piece of advice would you give other couples planning their big day? My advice would be to find a vision that speaks to your heart and represents your love as a couple. Don't be afraid to do something different, and remember that everything doesn't have to "match" to come out beautiful and complimentary. Above all, remember that this is your day to commit your lives to one another, and don't let anyone stand in the way of expressing that in whatever way you feel.

<? if (file_exists($DOCUMENT_ROOT."/includes/footer-weddings.php")) { include_once($DOCUMENT_ROOT."/includes/footer-weddings.php"); } else { header("location: /error.php"); } ?>
