We left for a hike in Papago before sunrise and were racing to get to the top of the mountain as the sun was coming up. Luckily we did and Mike handed me a letter listing out all the reasons he loved me. The last few sentences said, “I know you’ve been looking forward to this day forever because it’s the first day of football, but I wanted to make it even more special. I told you once there was only one way to show you how much I love you…well…” and I looked up and he was on one knee. It was perfect!

Tell us about your venue:
We found Gainey Suites Hotel by accident, but as soon as I met Kara Mason there and walked out to the courtyard, I knew this was the place for us! Between the rows of palm trees that would line each side of the aisle and the beautiful fountain that would serve as a backdrop during the ceremony, I was instantly sold. We were looking for something more intimate than a huge resort-type wedding and really just didn’t want it to feel flashy or “commercialized”. We worked with Kara on personalizing different aspects of the ceremony and reception that both meant a lot to us, but were things all of our guests would find truly unique and memorable. I couldn’t have asked for a better overall experience.

Describe the theme or color scheme of your wedding, and what you chose for your table setting at the reception.
We chose black, champagne, ivory and red for the colors, using the classic Burberry pattern as our inspiration. I hadn’t a clue what specifics I wanted from the get go, but knew the style that best reflected me and my relationship with Mike was “Simple Elegance”. We used red and ivory roses to accent everything throughout the ceremony and reception and I am still in awe when looking at pictures. My husband and I are both obsessed with football, but I didn’t want that to be our wedding theme. The last thing I wanted was to have our wedding look like a high school banquet. I am so pleased at the subtle and fun ways we integrated the sport we loved into our wedding without it looking tacky.

What one piece of advice would youg give other Brides planning their big day.
Don’t try to control everything. While I can be a bit of a control freak about certain things, I have this deal with my husband that whenever I’m acting like that he can call me “Kobe” (because well, he’s a notorious ball hog) and it stops me dead in my tracks. When it came to the wedding, there were so many intricate details and tedious tasks that it’s impossible not be overwhelmed. As soon as I took a deep breath and let my parents and friends help, new ideas came easier and so much pressure was lifted. I truly feel that our friends and family each had a part in the planning of our wedding and some even had surprises for Mike & I that blew us away the day of. It made it much more special that everyone had contributed something to this wonderful celebration that we were so fortunate to share with everyone we loved. It’s hard to balance work, everyday life and planning and even harder to spend time with everyone during the wedding week itself. Remember to enjoy it…and sometimes take a back seat and let people help YOU. Don’t be a Kobe.

<?php if (file_exists($DOCUMENT_ROOT."/includes/footer-weddings.php")) { include_once($DOCUMENT_ROOT."/includes/footer-weddings.php"); } else { header("location: /error.php"); } ?>
