It was Halloween, and there were lots of parties going on on campus. My friends dragged me out, and his friends dragged him out, and we ended up in the same place. I was dressed up in a last minute costume of black and lace, and he was wearing jeans and a sweatshirt (he hates Halloween). I saw him sitting across the room next to a girl that we both knew, and I went over to say hello. She and I had just met recently through a mutual friend, and she was so excited that I was Indian because she was learning Hindi. Aaron leaned over and said he knew some Hindi, and then said "main aloo hoon", which means "I am a potato". At first I thought I misheard him, but then I saw this little glint in his eyes, and before I knew it, we were talking all night in a way I had never been able to talk with anyone, like I'd known him forever but like he was this new completely untainted person full of excitement...and we haven't been able to stop talking since!

We were living in Cambridge, Massachusetts when he proposed. We go on walks every day, and he surprised me by walking us up to this abandoned castle that I'd always wanted to see. It was a really warm November day with storm clouds rushing across the skies, and we saw these two birds just playing around, and it felt perfect.

Were you happy with the venue? Oh my gosh, Desert Ridge was amazing! If it were entirely up to us, Aaron and I would probably have had a small ceremony under a tree by a river, but since we knew we were going to have a big wedding, I really can't imagine a better place. Desert Ridge is elegant, refined, and tasteful and with so much natural beauty.

Describe the theme or color scheme of your wedding, and what you chose for your table setting at the reception: We ended up having two ceremonies, actually, one that was Hindu and a mix of Indian (my dad's side) and Nepalese (my mom's side) customs, and one that was a mix of Episcopalian and Quaker customs, so our colors were traditional reds for the first ceremony and whites for the second, and with yellow accents throughout. I think it worked out really well, because each part feel really special and distinct but still tied together seamlessly.

What piece of advice would you give other brides planning their big day? Take time, just the two of you, to think about what you want your ideal day to feel like, before you officially start the planning process and get everyone else involved. And during the day, make sure you get to some time alone, before or after the ceremony, because the day will go by so fast! And on a practical note, a great venue, great food, and great music will impact the flow and feel of the day more than any other decisions, so take your time to be really thoughtful about those. It's a lot of work, and it can be exhausting, but it's worth it.

Tell us about your photographer. Why did you choose this photographer? Were you happy with the whole experience? That's the fourth most important thing - a professional, caring photographer. We looked at lots of different people, and chose Kevin and Tina because we loved their portfolio - they have a great eye for capturing little moments and big moments, and we loved that they were so excited about us, our story, and our different families and cultures coming together. They wanted to know all the details in every custom to make sure they photographed them the way we would want. They were just so thoughtful and went above and beyond!

<?php if (file_exists($DOCUMENT_ROOT."/includes/footer-weddings.php")) { include_once($DOCUMENT_ROOT."/includes/footer-weddings.php"); } else { header("location: /error.php"); } ?>
