Brad bought me a drink and for the next two hours we got to know each other and when I left I made sure he had my number. Three days later, standard guy waiting time, Brad called and asked me out for our first date (4/23). After the best first date ever (including Pita Jungle, shuffle board, and even late night fishing), the rest was “history”!

Proposal
In November 2010, we decided to take our first big vacation together; eight whole days alone in Maui! While we did not get formally engaged, Brad asked me to marry him in a Laundromat with the ring of my dreams… from the quarter machine. The ocean claimed that ring two days later and I was devastated. Brad took me back and after about $16 in quarters, I got the same black ring and wore it for a few months. The ring was incredibly special for me because I didn’t want anything fancy, I just wanted to marry him!

Then, in February we went to Sedona for Valentine's Day weekend and took a hot air balloon ride. After a gorgeous ride over the red rocks during sunrise, the balloon landed and we were shuttled to a scenic overview for our champagne breakfast. After muffins and bubbly, Brad asked me to enjoy the view with him. We walked a bit away from the rest of the participants and it wasn't until after Brad started talking about all the future adventures we'd share that I clued in on what was happening. Before I knew it he was down on one knee with a gorgeous ring in front of me asking me to marry him. We were both so overjoyed with the moment that I almost forgot to say yes, and he almost forgot to give me the ring!

Wedding Theme
The theme was modern/classic with black and ivory being the colors of the day. For the table setting I tried to incorporate both vintage black frames (for table numbers) and modern Manzanita trees with orchids and crystals. The guests received a scratcher lottery ticket and a caramel apple as favors.

Unique Wedding Elements
Brad LOVES video games so I rented a 12 person video game bus to sit out in front of Villa Sienna. In addition to video games the bus broadcasted the Sunday football game.

I also had numerous small details personalized for the day like edible scrabble pieces for Brad’s room (we love to play) and a message in a bottle for him to read and send back to me (we didn’t talk before the ceremony). My garter was custom made and I had the necklace charm my mom wore on her wedding day sewn in as my “something borrowed”. We had a custom black aisle runner with our names and wedding date printed on it and our cake forks said “Mr.” and “Mrs.” on them. We also had guests “make a wish” for us and write their wishes on cards which were placed in a wine box to be opened on our anniversary as we enjoy the wine with dinner. Finally, we had guests leave their thumbprint on a framed piece of artwork, in lieu of a traditional guest book.

I think the biggest special moment was our actual ceremony as the entire ceremony was custom written by our officiates based on our love story. I walked down the aisle to “The Luckiest” by Ben Folds and after our custom ceremony we read our own custom vows.

The Venue
Villa Siena is the ultimate wedding venue. You are guaranteed your wedding will be gorgeous (it is beautiful without any additional décor) and the staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. My coordinator Amy was great during the final hand-off of my planning and everything was executed beyond my expectations. I couldn’t have been happier.

Advice for Future Brides
Map out the general timeline as soon as you set your date. Try to tackle something once a week at a minimum and start maintaining lists of what needs to be done the day of. By the time your wedding day is here, you will be able to simply hand off your planning to those around you so it can be executed. Having things written out keeps them out of your head. For me I still would wake up in the middle of the night wondering if I had done this or that, so I kept notepads available so I could write down tasks and transfer them to my checklist on my computer.

Also, invest well in your photographer and videographer. They are not the places to cut costs because it is all you will have after the fact. Don’t rely on simply “memories” because it is such a big day that you can’t possibly absorb it all in a 24 hour period. Delegate if possible and remind those who may forget that while traditions are important, this day is for you and your new partner and starting new traditions are good too.

<?php if (file_exists($DOCUMENT_ROOT."/includes/footer-weddings.php")) { include_once($DOCUMENT_ROOT."/includes/footer-weddings.php"); } else { header("location: /error.php"); } ?>
