We had stayed up most the night decorating the Christmas tree and spending time with family, so we just spent the night. We began opening gifts as we do every year, each person opening one gift at a time. I noticed a very large box with my name on it, and wanted to open that one first. My sisters giggled and my dad smiled and they all told me I had to wait to open that one until very last. When I finally got to that gift, I could feel the tension in the air. Everybody was so excited! I opened the first box to find... another box. And so that happened about 5 or 6 more times. Each box containing an even smaller box. I finally got to the real gift. As I opened the last box, Jose got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes! We spent the rest of the day running around to all our families' homes sharing the news.

Wedding Planning - We had help planning our wedding from Thee Wedding Warehouse in Goodyear. The planning wasn't too hard for us. We had a very tight budget to work with, so we knew our limits. We knew what weekend we wanted to have it and we had a general idea of how we wanted things to go. Almost all of our family is in Idaho, so we were trying to make things as easy as possible for our guests from out of state.

We only ran into a few bumps in the road, mostly concerning color. Our colors were simply yellow and white. We figured since it was a summer wedding, it would be easy to find yellow dresses, shoes, shirts, etc. It was nearly impossible. My dad's girlfriend, Carol, was so generous. She made the bridesmaid dresses for us! I shopped about 6 different malls before I finally found my yellow shoes.

My mom and I put together all the centerpieces, bridesmaid bouquets and the boutonnieres. My bouquet was a surprise from my mother, made by the Glendale Flower Shop. It was perfect! My hair and makeup, I did myself with help from my sisters and mother. It was just simple.

Photographer - Cyndi Hardy was recommended to us by Thee Wedding Warehouse. I loved her work from the first time I looked at her samples. We had only met once before the wedding, but I knew that she would be great to work with. Cyndi is so relaxed and quiet. I loved that she didn't tell us how our pictures should look. She let us be natural and helped ease all of our nerves. It rained on our wedding day, and she wasn't even afraid to go outside so we could get some beautiful photos in the rain. Our guests were shocked that we were going out to take photos, so that made it even better. I didn't care that my hair went flat or that my dress got wet. And our pictures turned out so very nice. We are so pleased with the work she did for us.

Tips for Brides - Don't let other people tell you how your wedding should be. We all have a dream from the time we are young girls of what our special day should look like. Many vendors we met with were eager to tell us how our day should go and look. I had to be firm and make sure that our day was truly "our day." And don't be afraid to try out some DIY projects. It's fun and helps make the little things more personal.

<?php if (file_exists($DOCUMENT_ROOT."/includes/footer-weddings.php")) { include_once($DOCUMENT_ROOT."/includes/footer-weddings.php"); } else { header("location: /error.php"); } ?>
